How is Neon Made?

Soft Glass Tubing

Neon signs made from hand-blown glass tubes are carefully shaped over flames by skilled artisans. These tubes are then connected to a pump to create a vacuum, under these conditions noble gases can be introduced. The gases are excited under electricity and emit light.

Vibrant Colors

Colors are created by combining the color in the tube of the gas, and the color of the tube itself. For example, blue glass filled with red neon gas will make a bright pink color. The two noble gases used in neon signs are Argon with Mercury (bright white blue) and Neon (bright orange red).

Real Neon (no LED)

LEDs have made a significant impact on the neon industry by introducing imitations of neon signs. However, it's vital to note that authentic neon signs not only have a longer lifespan but are also more energy-efficient ans safer compared to LED signs. Opting for genuine neon not only benefits local artisans but also helps in the preservation of this traditional craft.
